Pros
I got hired as a software engineer fresh out of college in 2019. Clever had a lot of support system in place to make sure that I do well in my work and take on the projects of my interest. The benefits were great. I forged genuine friendships with my coworkers and I talk to some of them to this day. People are what makes Clever the best. A lot of the employees were ex-teachers, folks who genuinely care about education which translated to the way people treated each other. I left in 2021, and being older now, I realise how lucky I was to be so well taken care of as a young person. I will also note that the teams were very diverse and there are people of color, women and femmes, queer folks in the leadership team which is really rare in tech.
Cons
The pay is lower than in other startups/companies. As a person of colour and woman in STEM, I wish I was encouraged to pursue promotions or that I was paid more for my starting salary. I know that as an engineer, I had one of the lower starting salary.
