Not Growing Very Well

Pros

- great health insurance - decent work/life balance - nice people

Cons

Clover was great as a smaller startup, since being acquired by First Data and Fiserv, they are doing a pretty poor job in scaling. Instead of hiring competent HR, they decide to promote from within someone who has no idea what they are doing nor fit to be in a position. They are a fan of promoting from within those who are "grandfathered" into the company, but those people lack the experience and training needed for their new positions. Company culture is extremely clique-y; if you're not in one of those cliques, you are made to feel like you don't belong. There is an extreme lack of good management. A lot of empty promises and people being led on over months. Some of the product managers are also incompetent, leading to a lot of projects that were due yesterday. Clover used to be a very transparent company that is becoming less so year by year. It's a good place for a first job, definitely not somewhere to stay to grow your career.

We're glad you approve of the CEO and had a decent work/life balance. We appreciate you taking the time to write a review. We have been working on expanding our HR department since July of last year and we agree that people should be promoted based on merit, not just longevity. We're especially sorry that you felt it was clique-y. We strive to have an inclusive culture and be transparent. We are working to share all changes in a more "heads-up" way so that people feel in the know. If you have other feedback to share please email hr@clover.com.

Pros

Good engineering teams that recognize strengths of individuals to move forward

Cons

Management does not promote and recognize employees fairly. Actions of management reflect partiality and not fairness based on results, experience and qualification.

Pros

Not sure where some negative reviews were coming from: it made me pause a bit when I was comparing offers but I decided to join Clover to go with my gut and I never regretted that decision. 1. Flat organization that has less red tape. I don’t feel VPs and CEO are unapproachable. They are actually relatable and easy to approach and talk with. They help solving problems and clear road blocks for you. 2. Young organization that has lots of potentials. Clover is now a subsidiary of First Data but Clover itself is young. The company was founded just a few years ago and we are in the midst of shaping ourselves: product development, software development processes, and user centered design processes. This is when you can make an impact. I start to see more data driven product and design decisions just after joining Clover for a bit less than a year. To run a successful product, data informing decisions would be part of the DNA, and we are getting better and better on that. 3. Incredibly smart and fun-to-work-with co-workers. The best part of working at Clover is you can learn from your co-workers and they learn from you. 4. Great benefit. 100% paid insurance premiums including family members. It’s over $20,000 overhead per person for the company. Clover feeds people very well here too.

Cons

I’d appreciate Clover providing FSA-Childcare option. This is essentially $ contributed by employees so seems odd that we don’t have it. Absorbing companies to Clover can be challenging. Culture clashes happen which is much expected. I wish we could be more open about communication rather than be politically right.
