Pros

- member owned - it really makes a difference to know that my work is not lining the pockets of shareholders - friendly team - it's generally enjoyable to be at work - 30% discount on Coop own brands is fab - Coop try to do the right thing & that is reflected in the internal organisational conversations and priorities - flexibility in terms of days & shifts worked

Cons

- pay is just above minimum wage but not as high as the real living wage - as in many large organisations, there is a sense of disconnect between those who work in stores and serve customers and those further up the chain who make decisions - as far as I understand it, the number of staff hours that a store can use each week is decided centrally. This often seems to have the effect of leaving the store slightly short staffed & the staff on duty feel stressed & stretched as a result

Thank you for sharing your feedback and it’s great to hear you’ve had a positive experience so far. We’re really pleased you’re enjoying the friendly team, flexibility, and the difference being a member-owned organisation makes, as well as making the most of the 30% colleague discount. We also appreciate your honest reflections on pay, staffing levels, and feeling connected to decision making. Feedback like this really matters, and it helps us continue to improve how we support colleagues across our stores. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, and for everything you do as part of the team.

Pros

Coop being part of the community. Decent rate of pay. Good if you have a great team to work with, which I do. Decent amount of online training modules and have a "How Do I" system where if you are unsure of how to do anything in the Coop, you will find it there. Also good training instore and shop floor when buddies up with a colleague. Good range of working shifts and shift requests granted with your store manager if needed. Ive only been working at Coop about 12 weeks but I am enjoying it so far. Career advancement is always available for staff if they wish to develop and train to be team leaders, store managers, etc.

Cons

Late closing, which im not keen on as im getting older and get tired beyond 8pm, and shop closes at 10pm. Shoplifters, no matter how observant you are, its always going to happen at some point, but it gets disheartening with how many we have in our store (lots of alcohol is stolen and wish they were behind glass locked cabinets like other stores) and police are unable to come out for stolen goods under value of £200. Open Boxing Day and New Years day, should be closed for all to spend time with families. More staff should be rotad to help out on shop floor after deliveries.
