Culture of Fear and Bullying

Pros

Decent pay, most coworkers are relatively friendly

Cons

Management is a garbage fire and the culture is built on fear and bullying. The company could be two to three times it's size if management wasn't so focused on destroying their own progress from within. When I first started, BOTH Sr. Directors left or were fired within two weeks of each other and the VP of the group was overwhelmed and ineffective. When you sought guidance, you were continually pushed off until your area became a problem...which leads me to my next point: - never admit a mistake Mistakes are viewed as a weakness, and the company does not tolerate weakness. I saw multiple coworkers get fired for very simple and correctable mistakes...that they corrected...and were still fired. So, if you can weather a culture of fear, and outlast your coworkers, you will eventually get a promotion...but know your head is next on the chopping block.

Toxic work environment

Pros

The only positive thing about working for CoStar Group is the health benefits. I also met a lot of great people. But all have left or been laid off.

Cons

I had a terrible experience working for CoStar Group. The horror stories are true. The reviews aren’t fake. It’s not “disgruntled former employees”. It’s real people who worked there and were treated terribly like myself. The culture is extremely toxic. They allow a lot of unprofessional behavior. Even after escalating repeat issues to leadership. It truly starts at the top with the CEO. Employees aren’t celebrated. They rarely promote within unless you have been named a “favorite” of the CEO. You can work hard and it’s still not good enough. And they will be sure to tell you that you aren’t good enough. The place has a revolving door of employees. Which says a lot in itself. Things became worse once we were sent to work from home because of the pandemic. You were expected to work around the clock. Putting your health and family first was frowned upon. You are expected to put CSG above all. There is no work/life balance. The behavior of the CEO is very bizarre. I heard all of this when I first started but was optimistic because I’m a hard working professional. I quickly learned my lesson.

A lot of really great people. Good health insurance.

Cons

Average pay Upper management is simply out of touch with their employees. No more working from home. Very limited vacation and sick time.
