Pros

Salary is paid well but it’s a trap.

Cons

CoStar Group is one of the most toxic and demoralising workplaces I’ve ever encountered. The culture is controlling, outdated, and completely unsupportive. It feels like being trapped in a strict school, not a professional workplace. You’re monitored constantly, micromanaged to the extreme, and forced to hit unrealistic KPIs that change on a whim. There’s no transparency, no consistency—just pressure. What makes it worse is the complete lack of job security. People are fired without warning, no performance reviews, no opportunities to improve—just one day you’re gone. Management thrives on fear and uses it as a tactic to control staff. It’s a high-stress, high-turnover environment for a reason. The lack of diversity is glaring. Leadership is overwhelmingly homogenous, and there’s clearly a glass ceiling for ethnic minorities. Opportunities for advancement are few and far between unless you fit a certain mould. Inclusion feels like a checkbox exercise, not something the company genuinely cares about. If you’re a person of colour or from a minority background, don’t expect the same recognition or progression as your peers. Overall, CoStar may look polished from the outside, but behind closed doors, it’s a toxic, rigid, and exclusionary workplace that drains your energy and offers no real future. Avoid at all costs if you value your mental wellbeing, professional growth, or being treated with basic human respect.

Pros

Nothing! I should have taken the reviews here under consideration but though people were exaggerating.

Cons

The atmosphere in the office was extremely toxic, a relentless culture of fear casting a shadow over every aspect of work life. Metrics became more than just tools for evaluation; they morphed into instruments of intimidation, a constant reminder of looming judgment. Bullying is a part of daily interactions, created an environment rife with tension and despair. Achieving good mental health, personal development, and experiencing happiness going to work become unattainable in such an environment characterized by harshness, toxicity, and an excessive focus on monthly numerical metrics. Managers have absolutely no idea how to handle people; their main job is checking your work with unrealistic monthly audits. This has as a result that a lot of people are gaming the systems, leading to inaccurate data. Instead of being productive and do your job, you will get in a survival mode how to have good numbers so you don't get fired. The company (instead of changing their culture of fear) they increased salaries because a lot of people were leaving. Don't fall into their trap!! Working there means enduring mental torture and daily fear, and it's seriously unhealthy.

Pros

They help you get a drone license so you can use that to get a job that is actually about taking photos.

Cons

CoStar created an entire department of Architectural Photographers and their only job is to do all the photo/add shoot work. They do zero data stuff. So if you have a Architectural Photographer in your market you will never do photography just data collection. The photographer part of the Field Research Photographer is just to rope you in… you’ve been warned. Micromanaging on steroids, if you are stopped somewhere for more than 10 minutes you get a call from your manager asking why. Just think about that, if you’re working they assume you’re not. Not only that they look at satellite images of where you were stopped and decide for themselves if you could see a particular building or data point. Get use to going to the bathroom in a bottle while in your car because the productivity requirements are so insane it’s more productive to pee in a bottle than go find a decent washroom. Also if you spend too much time trying to find a washroom they question your driving routes because productivity…
