Pros

The view from The Shard. - The fact it literally is a 9-5. People are falling over themselves trying to break free from the daily costar shackle at 5pm. - Free fresh fruit and cold water tap. - The pay

Cons

Where to begin? THIS IS A CALL CENTRE. Don’t mind the staff commenting trying to boost the profile of CoStar! Their turnover rate is between 40-60%! As soon as people leave they have two more people joining. This is not an analytical company! They have you essentially cold calling your ‘clients’ who are really estate agents asking them day in day out if they have leased or sold their commercial property. These “agents” are SICK of the calling and frankly I do not blame them. That’s all you’ll be doing in the job. CoStar especially love a new ‘fresh out of university’ individual because they know they are desperate and see the salary as jackpot (like me). Everyone I’ve met at the job has hated it and during my time there not one person has had a good word to say about the company. I was sold dreams of developing my personal skills and doing conducting proper research. Most of the time you will be making dud calls and if you fall behind on those targets, have the constant and almost everyday threat from a manager saying that your position will be terminated if you fail to reach their demands. You’re expected to make 12 calls a day on avg. what they don’t tell you is the calls need to be over 90s for it to count. So you’ll actually be making 20-30 calls in order to make the 12 call target. The training is limited and when it is given, mind numbing. Costar falsely advertise the role as something its not. if they advertised the job as a call centre with phone targets there would be plenty of people happy to work there and do that. The training in the US is just as awful with a four week stay in Virginia with the American corporate (yay?!) who are worse than the UK. all in all please please please do not waste your time here! I wish I could have told people during their interviews and their side by sides to run far away!! I’ve wasted a year of my life and can absolutely say this is one of my biggest regrets. Don’t be like me and look at the reviews and still decide against them and take the job. I really wish I’d taken it seriously. Would have saved myself a lot of tears

Pros

Location, salary, people (shrinking rapidly, lot of good ones gone)

Cons

Gone are the trophy laden glory days of times gone past, replaced by a rookie squad lacking direction, motivation and any form of worthwhile tactics. This is most definitely a team in crisis. Since the start of 2017 the group have witnessed a plethora of staff leaving, with 40+ moving on. With a usual squad of around 100 in Glasgow this represents a worrying turnover level. Many experienced campaigners have sought pastures new, which only continues to do harm to an already fragile and inexperienced line-up. Some have even cancelled their contracts, with the idea of not competing better than turning up to the daily grind. Attempts were made to bolster the squad with some new US imports, but that did little to instill confidence, causing more fear and panic than a boost to their defences. The majority, having now left, have been badly bruised by their UK experience. Management continue to pass on orders, with confusion over the source of these seemingly bizarre tactics. Why try NFL rules in the UK? Who is really running the show? I doubt the UK directors have much clout against the wealthy owner, known for his love of getting involved in the tiniest of details. Not quite studs on boots but not far off! There’s now talk of a possible relocation, fitting for a US led operation who are known for showing little sporting loyalty. As for the poor paying public the service on offer continues to lack the quality it once had. Constant change, player turmoil, risk of relocation, poor loyalty and most worryingly lack of proper direction help provide a product getting poorer by the day. It looks like this team will be taken to extra time but how long can they continue is anyone’s guess. Shot shy, devoid of any tactical nous they really have let this team get out of their depth, both domestically and in Europe.

Pros

Summarised: the pay (£40k), hours (9-5) and the researchers are all good fun.

Cons

Hindsight is a great thing and I wish I hadn't ignored some of the reviews on glassdoor before accepting the job because of how accurate they are. The targets set are unrealistic with around 60% of researchers unable to hit the target and many people on some sort of warning or not passing their probation (making it easier for them to sack you). We've had a lot of people leave either out of choice or have been fired over the past month and the atmosphere in the department is dying. There is a lack of development and progression within the role, titles such as a research associate 2 and senior researcher associate meaning little if anything in the industry. My advice would be to anyone joining, be aware of what you are getting yourself into if you are joining solely for the pay - you don't get paid £40k without some catch! But also be prepared to find a new job once the honeymoon period is over.
