Pros

The office, other researchers, the pay

Cons

Falsely advertised research role - I did not go to university and study a Real Estate degree to sit in front of a screen and make calls to agents everyday to ask 'is this still available'. Nor did I aspire to work in a role where I sit and copy and paste brochures all day and then get scored on how well I've done it. STOP hiring young educated people and tricking them into a job they think is going to be an amazing opportunity - there is 0% chance of career progression. Being asked to write fake reviews - yes - completely true!! We are asked to write fake reviews on glassdoor when we join. So any positive reviews you see on here are most likely fake as everyone I speak to hates working here. Management - Managers often sit in rooms together for a gossip, including one HR member HR - Unapproachable and rude. I'm sure senior HR are unaware of what really goes on Unrealistic stats - Calling people for no reason, just as long as you make as many calls as possible you are praised. New rule is that the system picks up on key words for the call to count - yet none of us have been told what they are??? Lack of communication - Metrics change all the time and we will not be informed until we're told we're not hitting them. You'll then be threatened with performance review or the sack No job security - you are always 4 weeks away from getting sacked. They'll find a reason if they don't like you

Thanks for your review. At CoStar Group, we're proud to offer competitive salaries to our employees. It’s also great to hear you enjoy working with your colleagues and your office. Our goal is to build our team with high-achieving, smart and driven people who bring their best to work every day. Establishing a sense of camaraderie within our teams is very important to us. Please know that we want every employee to be engaged with and enjoy their role. We recognize that research is not made for everyone, however our metrics are carefully designed to help researchers excel while delivering accurate and timely information to our clients. Based on what you've expressed, it sounds like this isn’t a great fit, and we’d encourage you to speak with your manager about your concerns so together you can plan a positive path forward. Additionally, our leadership is committed to providing the appropriate information, tools and resources needed to succeed at CoStar Group. If there are specific issues that you can speak to regarding your management team, please email us at HRdepartment@costar.com so we can learn more. We would appreciate any further details you can provide so we can use this as an opportunity to improve your experience as part of our team, as well as the experience of new hires who join our company. Lastly, we always encourage our employees to provide feedback; it's why we regularly survey employees about engagement, communication, IT tools, etc. Whether it's through a survey or a platform like Glassdoor, feedback is important so we can gauge what we're doing right and identify areas for improvement. That said, we do not ask - nor will we ask - employees to leave positive reviews. Employees are encouraged to leave whatever feedback, positive or negative, they deem important to share with us.

Pros

Paid time off 8-5 job, no work done from home Good pay for a young professional out of college

Cons

I have been working as a Research Associate for 2 years now, and this review is way overdue. Only consider applying to this position if it’s literally your last option or if you’re in dire need of money. You are not going to grow into a professional and any career aspirations you might have will die if you don’t get out of this company. The “Researcher” role consists of sitting in your cubicle for 7 hours a day and speaking to the same people for 90 seconds every single month. Out of all the people you talk to, about 5-10% really want to talk you for help or because they like you, the rest dread talking to you and are ready to hang up on you as soon as you say “Costar/Loopnet”. You also get transferred to all the angry customers that got scammed by the sales department. If you get promoted to RA II you keep doing the same work and keep talking to the same people. It amazes me that our job function is talking to people and we are expected to work Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. How many people do you think are going to want to talk to “Researchers” on those days? Well, it doesn’t matter, you are expected to talk to 20 people those days and maintain conversations for 90 seconds at least. Every single person out of college working in Research dreads coming to work and they are searching for other jobs every day. As soon as they find something else, they take the job and flee without any hesitation. I have co-workers that have taken jobs as waiters instead of working another day for this company. There is no talent or any inspiration from your managers, nevertheless from top management (CEO, VP’s, Directos). Any positive reviews you see here are probably fake. I work with all these people, and I have never heard any positive feedback. All I hear is complaints and negative comments from this company. With all respect to all the co-workers who have been working here for more than 5 years, but all these people have accepted they can’t get a better job than this and have accepted their fate in CoStar as a researcher. Don’t get comfortable here, your career aspirations will die in CoStar. If you are looking to apply here, don’t do it. If you are a current employee, don’t get comfortable here and look for something better.

Pros

The office is located in a prime, central location in Glasgow city centre. There is also free tea/coffee and fresh fruit is delivered twice weekly. The researchers are all great and the portfolio managers I have had have been both supportive and encouraging. The learning and development team are excellent and you gain a strong insight into commercial real estate.

Cons

Make yourself comfortable folks cause this may take a while. CoStar preach that they are not a call centre almost daily. I actually think upper management are hypnotised prior to joining to say that it isn't all about the calls. Last month an absolutely atrocious call target of 20 ninety second calls was enforced and these have to be achieved DAILY. On top of this production (data entry) has to also be completed. Now I believe calls to agents have to be done so information can be captured, but 20 a day? That just takes the biscuit. This place IS A CALL CENTRE and the researchers are forced to spend the entire day scratching around for anyone to call just to keep themselves out of the firing line because nothing else matters but CALLS. Still don't think it is a call centre? Then grab a drink folks. Recently we now have these cheesy American branding scripts which have to be read verbatim to agents/PAs or whoever we are lucky to have on the phone no matter how many times we have spoken to them in the past. It is frankly embarrassing. Due to the time spent trying to make 20 calls a day there is a massive backlog of production sitting in limbo which is not on our system. Subscribers and non subscribers use CoStar to give their listings the exposure they require and they aren't going to be pleased when they see all these lovely reviews stating their researchers are too busy calling tenants just to make their call target. The procedures and portfolios constantly change so if you get a nice portfolio full of friendly agents don't get used to it! At present the amount of staff off sick is resounding. Many experienced researchers have put their notice in and many are looking to leave because the place is so awful. You feel the tension the moment you walk in the door.
