I’m not sure which department you were in, but CoStar Group has changed a lot over the course of three years as the company has grown, so you must have seen a number of changes to the company. In the past year in particular, the company has opened the lines of communication more – we want all our employees to know that their opinions matter. Managers are now receiving training to develop their relationships and rapport with their employees so both are able to continue growing in their work. CoStar Group has always had many opportunities for growth – from promotion to managerial roles to transferring between departments and offices, even between countries, so employees can find the best fit for them and develop their careers. More recent changes have developed clearer cut career paths for employees; for example, in Research employees can now move toward either more managerial or analytic roles based on their interest, with clear, but flexible steps to help them move forward in the company. Thank you for your feedback, and we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Pros

Free food, had a decent Christmas party.

Cons

Dull, monotonous work, all numbers-based, with no heed to quality or other work that was equally relevant. Basically cold-calling or lukewarm-calling people who generally don't want to talk to you. Pay was not that great. Refused to pay a bonus for a quarter I had worked the entirety of.

We’re grateful for your feedback. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your time at CoStar Group, the research position does require constant communication with commercial real estate professionals, and that job requirement may not be the right fit for everyone. CoStar is the standard source for commercial real estate information, which is the reason why each of the top 100 brokerage firms in the US uses CoStar all day and every day. They rely on our researchers being persistent with their communication to brokers as part of the research process. We encourage our researchers to build relationships with their contacts in order to make their job easier, and to ensure we are providing the most accurate data. It is those relationships that keep clients with us five years or more at a 98% renewal rate. The bonus process in the Research organization ensures that Researchers receive a bonus based on their performance for that quarter, unless the employee was recently hired or on a formal corrective action plan. Without knowing the details of your situation, I couldn’t speak to why you didn’t receive a bonus. However, processes are currently in place that make it possible for every active Researcher to receive a quarterly bonus. We will you all the best in your future accomplishments.

Pros

Metro benefits, Gym, Young staff.

Cons

As Managers, we were coerced into aggressively polluting CoStar's research department with relentless deceit, chintzy contests, and above all hostile career threats. That place is toxic.

Any form of deceit or threat to an employee’s career is not the workplace atmosphere that we want at CoStar Group. Please contact hrdepartment@costargroup.com to further discuss this issue, as we want to ensure this kind of behavior is not repeated, let alone encouraged. As in most jobs there are certain numbers that must be met in Research in order to ensure the quality of work is being done at the right efficiency, but CoStar Group works hard to instill in managers and directors that Research is not based on just metrics – we look to evaluate researchers based on the quality of their work and the service they are able to provide to their clients. While we do try to find creative and new ways to help researchers increase efficiency, we know the importance of the relationship between researcher and client, and that value is something that cannot be measured in a number. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we are looking into the issues you brought up as they do not reflect the goals of this company and should not continue.
