The good with the bad

Pros

Good location in Downtown Bethesda. Benefits are decent. I work for a great manager, even if she doesn't understand most of my job.

Cons

Communication. Last-minute projects with unrealistic deadlines. Metrics spreadsheets that exceed the bounds of human comprehension. Unrealistic (popular word here) expectations with regard to meeting bonus minimums, so the "gates" are frequently lowered at quarter-end, so it's not totally demoralizing that nobody received a bonus. Would make more sense for upper management to realize the goals they set will take longer to achieve, and they need to raise them more gradually.

Pros

Nice office building centrally located-near restaurants and mall Coworkers were nice-at least those at same level as you-you had a lot in common because almost everyone was miserable

Cons

Never were given clear, meaningful direction Bad morale, no recognition Performance reviews conducted late by your manager if at all Unreasonable metrics and no rewards for meeting them Condescending upper manager who were completely out of touch with their workers CEO who never interacted with employees and was a cocky, self centered individual with no interest for the well being of his employees

Pros

Do I really have to think of 20 words of praise? That is tough. Benefits are decent, you start of with a reasonable amount of vacation. You get maternity leave from day 1 so if you are pregnant, take the job, use your 2 weeks paid leave and then quit.

Cons

No one is respected. Your boss is there to catch you doing something wrong. This is to hurt your bonus eligibilty. Nothing is consistent. Today's standards and rules will be different tomorrow. Your work will be judged by the standards on the day it is judged, not the standards that were in place a month or two before when you actually did the work. It is our job to verify and update information about our properties. But if you make a major correction your boss will assume it is wrong and your bonus suffers. We are rewarded for doing something wrong and punished for doing it right. Costar would rather be cheap with pay and bonuses, and treat people poorly and have them quit. Instead of cultivating an employee. They don't seem to realize that a constant stream of trainees produces poor quality work and costs more money because they are always training new people.
