Pros

The people are all wonderful to work with after 4 years of being here. Rarely a dull moment and we can still get together regardless of which discipline and have a good time.

Cons

Not a whole lot to be honest.

So glad to hear that your team and the broader Seattle team is having a good time! The more we operate as a high functioning team, the more fun and rewarding this will be. If you haven't already, please read Patrick Lencioni's "Five Dysfunctions of a Team" to help perpetuate this vision of high functioning teamwork. Seems like it is going right in your sphere, but to improve and guard against mediocrity, we all need to have expertise in how to function as a team. Dave Ruff - CEO/President

Pros

There are so many great things I'd like to say about what I have experienced and learned at Coffman! To make this short, sweet and thorough, here are the things that I think make Coffman an excellent employer: 1. Focus on the Individual: Coffman is great at expressing their appreciation for each and every person that works for them. Working here, I don't feel like a cog in a large machine, I feel important and respected. When I come to work I know that what I do matters and those around me feel the same. I am not micromanaged and am able to prioritize my own workload. 2. Great Leadership: Fair, Positive, Cohesive and Professional managers who are easily approachable and down-to-earth. 3. Driven and inspiring upper management who value input from all employees. 4. Excellent benefits package (medical (HSA), Teledoc, dental, vision, life, 401k, AD&D, Long Term Disability, Short Term Disability, Life Assistance Program, paid holidays, paid vacations, parental leave, PTO 401k rollover options, transportation reimbursement (in some offices) and corporate gym discounts). 5. Competitive salary 6. Paid continuous education opportunities including on-the-job training, CRP/First Aid/AED, Webinar Series, Lunch and Learn and college incentives. 7. Wellness Program offering cash incentives 8. Charitable Contributions: Coffman is great at supporting the communities around them with various charitable contributions, including an internal committee in each office who helps manages donation requests. These are done on a local level, not a corporate one. 9. Internal Communications: For me personally, communication at work is extremely important. At this company I never have to chase down unanswered questions or follow-up to make sure something is completed. Throughout the company, people are thorough, timely and professional and that makes my job a whole lot easier. 10. Internal Promotions are offered across multiple levels at Coffman

Cons

I think it would benefit Coffman to look into issuing bi-weekly paychecks instead of a semi-monthly paychecks. The biggest grip I hear is about the high-deductible HSA. But honestly, it's just something to get used to and Coffman offers a wonderful matching incentive. I personally don't have issue with that part of our benefits.

Wow. Thanks for your thorough listing of why you like Coffman. You sure you aren't in marketing :) Another thing we just added was our Emergency Assistance Fund. When disaster happens we have tax free grants available to employees to lessen the blow. I understand the benefit of 26 paychecks per year from a personal budgeting standpoint. Unfortunately that cycle would be disconnected from our billing cycle which is a little complex as time sheets, paychecks, and billing are intertwined. Thanks, Dave Ruff - CEO/President

Pros

Great people, Interesting projects, Excellent leadership! I've been with Coffman for several years now and can say that they are aging well (40 years in business this year). Some things I appreciate: their care for employees comes through every day, each office functions as its own business but has the backing of the corporate structure to help it be successful, and they try to hire the best employees out there.

Cons

Some hiccups due to rapid growth but when something is identified, they try to fix it as soon as possible. The low unemployment rate is making it more difficult to find good people (not just their problem but slow things down).

Thanks for the advice. We are working hard to hire more people, but as you stated, there are a lot of opportunities out there. We are focused on trying to create a healthy work environment for three reasons: 1. Because it is the right thing to do for fellow humans, 2. Because it maximizes inspiration and thus creativity and quality, and 3. Because it attracts and retains the best. Thanks for your vote of confidence. Dave Ruff - CEO/President
