It's not infrequent to hear the manager bad mouthing their own bosses and other team leaders, which creates a lot of distrust and doubts. Favoritism means that your opinion doesn't matter when you are not on the manager's good side. Some tech leads with a "my way or highway" attitude that makes career advancement virtually impossible.
