Pros

It provides a way to see your potential in running your own business. You learn to work hard and form relationships with clients, employees, and co-workers.

Cons

There is essentially no training on the job site. You are basically placed at a house and expected to produce the house. Management does not care if you make a profit because no matter what they take their 40%. Many co-workers worked long hours and walked away with no compensation. It is very stressful.

Pros

The pay is slightly above minimum wage (not that they actually give you what you deserve). Also, at least you don't have to work 40 hours a week for just a high school summer job.

Cons

Your manager lowballs budget hours so you end up working for free all the time. It is also extremely embarrassing when the owner complains about your poor work and you can't do anything because you were given almost no training.

Pros

Real-world experience in training teams in marketing, sales (very strong sales training), production (minimal training) Profit & Loss (medium training). Depending on the state, you are working with other very motivated individuals. Lots of team support, "fun" trips (Cancun for top producers at years end, individual team activities like wakeboarding, sports, etc.). Chance to make good money while in school (top producers make $35-$45,000 over 8 month period, plus bonuses ($5,000 - $8,000) plus chance to purchase annual NSG / CWP bond at high percentage rate.

Cons

Did I say hard work? During school, I sourced for 40-50 hours per week while doing school FT (as a District Manager). No work-life balance. During the summer, 90 hour weeks for a number of months, incredibly difficult time management (though teaches you to do so), work-life balance can be insane. Upper management support (VP's of states) truly have a big impact on your experience. Easy to "crash" and burn. As a DM, you can't crash and burn however, as you need to support the Branch Managers you hired. Poor production (painting) training versus sales. Creates very good sales Branch Managers who can't paint houses. Makes for poor quality on the whole of the teams with certain rockstars going above and beyond the company support to create a solid business/franchise.
