Pros

Fort Collins is a WONDERFUL place to live. The climate is perfect, schools are great, and the town is fun for families. The University is a great employer, and depending on the position, the work schedules are very flexible. CSU is like most academic institutions focused on research and teaching, which offers flexibility in time and, to some extent, what you do.

Cons

Colorado has been under a hiring/raise freeze for some time, and it only recently came out of that. Consequently, everyone wants a raise, so they've changed their structure of instituting those, making out of cycle raises almost impossible. This is important, because a lot of people were not hired on competitive salaries to begin with.

Pros

Salary was done through direct deposit, and the whole campus is pretty big on recycling and taking care of the environment.

Cons

No nearby parking on campus for grad students, not a big deal if you bike or live near enough to walk.

Pros

Living in FoCo and meeting some great people

Cons

5 years of stress, hard work, and long hours.....and when you finish the degree ( if you are lucky enough to finish) job prospects are minimal. Many people failed or drop out each year, and I have a hard time of remembering people who actually enjoyed going to their respective labs. The PIs have all of the control, and basically own you for 5 to 7 years. You are just highly trained cheap labor to them, so they don't want to let you leave.
