Great benefits, but the place is run by political WASP's who embrace a 70's authoritarian style of management.
Pros
The benefits. The Colorado PERA retirements package is great, and the Long Term Disability is a great insurance to have in case you become disabled. The package is not as good as it was, but it still beats social security and medicare. The hours are pretty standard, making it a great place to work if you place an emphasis on family time. And then there's Fort Collins, which is a wonderful place to live.
Cons
It's still a very conservative place to work. Some departments are better than others. But there are certainly plenty of departments with a lack of diversity and a plethora of middle-aged WASP's. Management is generally not supportive and tolerant of diversity. HR does little to remedy this, and the OEO is a joke. The technology is a little antiquated, which is what you would expect from a government institution. The furniture is at least 20-30 years old in my department, and the pace of work is ssllllooowwww. If a corporation were run this way, they'd never stay in business. Still, it does provide for a less stressful work environment, even if it is demoralizing and demotivating. Promotions are given to favorites, so don't expect your job title or duties to change without switching departments.
