Management is extremely disconnected from the real world.

Pros

Great group of people to work with. I have met some of the best people who love the industry. Excellent top management.

Cons

Management is disconnected with what is really happening with their employees and managers. Managers are rude, and unfair to many employees. Instead of trying to make Columbia a better company managers believe that if you don't like how they do things you should leave, because we are right and you are wrong. The thought of management taking a idea from a general employee is appalling to middle management.

Pros

The money is ok but not enough for the work benefits are amazing though. Good medical and Dental for myself and family is $100 a month. Retirement, vacation, floating holidays, sick time, multiple paid holidays off, 4 day work week. Unions dues are cheap less than $100 a month. Incentives for working your days off. If you finish your day early you are still paid for the full day.

Cons

ROUTING! routing is one of the worst in the industry. You can submit changes to the route and it will be changed the following week, but the next week its back to the original nightmare. The only way to make routing stick is when stores start refusing loads. The schedules can be bad. Long hours(12-14) every day for about 8-9 months out of the year. If you like overtime this is the place. No help when you need it and help when you dont. The work is hard and customers can be really rude or demanding beyond reasonable accommodation. Management can be 50/50 sometimes awesome sometimes "blind". SAFETY is not their priority, broken equipment, delivering in dangerous locations either from a truck being to big or routing put you in a busy spot at peak hours causing you to deliver from the turn lane or busy street. Alot of aggressive homeless encounters. Alot of stairs which honestly with our volume should no longer be apart of the delivery process. High injury rate mostly from high volume and poor delivery conditions i.e. stairs, cramped coolers, kegs needing to be put in places with your body moving in ways it shouldn't. Pay is low for the work we are expected to do. We should be at an equivalent to u.p.s. or at the very least 40 an hour, our raises have not kept up with inflation at all and hopefully we can correct that during the next union contract.
