Pros

Great pay and benefits. Great people to work with. Employees seem to enjoy their jobs. Management is engaged and in tune with employees.

Cons

The storm duty role imposed on salary ComEd staff is demanding and very disruptive to your family life. The role is in addition to your regular eight hour job. Storm duty requires you to report to work for an additional twelve hour work shift when outages occur. The role you are assigned to is totally irrelavant to your normal duties. When teams are out of the office serving storm duty, it creates a disruption to business unit funtions. Not to mention you can be summoned by a pager to report to duty during terrible weather conditions which can put your safety at risk.. Not sure why Exelon employees are not assigned a storm duty role. Not fair.

Pros

Compensation is good when compared to other companies in the area. It is bait.

Cons

The company is a mess because there is no need for it to maintain any sort of efficiency. ComEd senior execs maintain a spoils sytem in the work place, waste money like crazy, make bad decisions, and then go to the government and ask them to hike rates on consumers. The corportate offices in the South Loop are horrible. Employees are miserable, driven crazy by incompetent leadership. I started looking for a new job three weeks after I started here.

Pros

The pay is good, and the level of hands-on experience is good. Safety is a high priority. Competitive benefits. No competitors to worry about constantly since it is an energy distribution utility.

Cons

Log jam in career advancement. Overly complex and restrictive legal dept makes contracting with others a nightmare. Strict budget policies (with good reason) since it is a utility. Some divisions seem understaffed/overworked.
