Pros

Pay was decent/high end for home care via a company (vs private care)

Cons

Was told I’d have full time hours when I was hired, stayed steady at only 25-30 hours a week. Benefits (one reason I took the job) kick in after 6 months and I wasn’t being given enough hours to qualify for anything. Management ditches client calls/concerns, say they “lost their number.” Openly tell clients that they hire/schedule people “just to be warm bodies” and fill in holes in the schedule. Pressure clients to continue with caregivers they aren’t comfortable with and don’t want in their home. The whole experience was a “sh*t show.

Pros

The bigger picture is that it's rewarding knowing you are making a difference in keeping seniors safe and happy in their homes as long as possible. You meet a lot of interesting caregivers and speak with people that really need your compassion. The days go very quickly as the phones are not idle for long. There is fun to be had among the staff to laugh at the absurdity of many of life's situations. Owner knows how to run a successful business. End of year bonus is very good!

Cons

Team members sometimes do not always cover phones for Reception when she is functioning in her HR Assistant role. One team member sometimes takes her stress out on others but management overlooks this due to her value to the company. Operational meetings are not run professionally with staff allowed to talk over one another. Manager/Owner does not take the time to professionally develop some members of the team so you may be stuck in one position for a long time. Most advancement opportunities are lateral not vertical.
