Most Supportive Contract Agency

Pros

I honestly can't say enough good things about the last 8 years I've spent working for Communication Works. This company is one of a kind and unique in all the best ways. The supervisors are incredibly supportive and will go out of their way to help their employees reach an employee's own personal goals. I have felt supported during high profile cases, and when "sticky situations" arise at work. I have grown ten fold as a therapist and I owe much of it to CW. Through CW I've had experiences supervising graduate students, supervising an SLPA, and have been able to take on leadership opportunities. CW's compensation and benefit package is competitive and fair!

Cons

I truly can't think of any major cons associated with being a CW employee. The only con of being a contractor is your position can be changed year-to-year as a district's needs change HOWEVER that is true of any contract position.

Pros

The best reason to work at Communication Works is their support. Whether you are new to the field- fresh-out- of- grad- school, or new to the school setting, or changing the age group you're working with, CW's supervisors are incredibly supportive. The supervisors can do initial site visits with you, review reports, help with scheduling, lesson planning, etc. The supervisors and specialists also help ensure that you are prepared and supported during contentious meetings. CW also advocates effectively to protect caseload caps and ensures that you get extra support should you go over it. I have heard from many other SLPs who work at competing agencies who don't get anything like the support and training that CW offers. In addition, there are very knowledgeable specialists within the company (such as AAC specialists, motor speech, bilingual SLPs) that CW connects you with if you need in-depth support. Because they are a small company, there's also fun get-togethers several times throughout the year. Being a small company also means that the communication between different levels (from SLPs to managers to office support staff to executive director) is well-defined and runs smoothly. All CW's supervisors, managers, and directors are SLPs, so they truly understand what our jobs entail!

Cons

Some say that you might get a better salary working directly for school districts, but you would have to compare salary + benefits directly.

Pros

I loved the level of support I was given from my CF supervisor, especially compared to those I graduated with who took other routes for their CF. She provided me with direct routine supervision, in which I felt were truly moments of support. She would step in to demonstrate strategies in areas of need that I had and shared valuable research based practices to support my development as a clinician. I ended my CF year not only feeling more confident in my direct therapy skills, but also in my report writing. I was provided examples and templates for assessments that were new to me. I also felt confident that my reports were legally defensible. Additionally, I was given competitive compensation for my work, and felt a since of community within the company. The company supports a work-life balance for SLPs. I am still friends with many people I met while with CW and am always delighted when I come across other SLPs who are currently with CW. I highly recommend CW for any CF/SLP looking for quality supervision and a supportive team to grow with.

Cons

I have no cons for CW.
