Pros

CIS' mission to support students and prevent drop out is excellent. They are good at partnering with community businesses to get funding for student support. There isn't much oversight from supervisors and you can run the program on your campus the way you see fit. Supervisors of empathetic, supportive, and will help you resolve any problems. You work school hours and have school holidays and summers off.

Cons

The pay is not a livable wage, nor is it fair compensation for what you are asked to do in terms of support and documentation. There is a stipend for medical insurance, but it's not enough to cover yourself, much less a family. You get 13 vacation days a school year and they tell you that they'll 'roll over,' but you can only use what is rolled over at the discretion of a director and under very specific circumstances.

Pros

-Wonderful team, amazing supervisor, full of people who truly love the work and are dedicated to serving students and their families -Being on the school schedule was also a bonus as we got school holidays and breaks off with pay

Cons

-The pay is low. When I was there, the starting salary was $36,000 WITH A MASTERS DEGREE -There was also a clear "hire white in upper management but folks of color in frontline positions" thing going. The advancement opportunities always seemed to lean toward a young, excited white woman, but student-facing and middle managment positions were full of people of color. (FYI: This was back in 2014-2021ish era)
