Terrible Place to Work!!

Pros

The people I work with are nice.

Cons

Where to start.... The company has zero respect for it's employees. They act as though they own you and try to dictate all of your time, even past your required 40 hours. There is an over abundance of work due to continued acquisitions, yet they wonder why the work is not getting done, and mandate overtime to attempt to complete it, even on Saturdays with less than a weeks notice. The upper management gets hefty paychecks while the common employee makes nowhere near what they should. There is no support to employees who have outside ambitions or goals. It's like they are jealous that you could potentially do something other than slave for CHS. There are a lot of questionable accounting practices as well which they rationalize with a bunch of big words and changes of conversation. Nothing is planned ahead, and they just expect you to be able to figure out at the last minute. This is an awful place to work and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

Pros

The staff members in my hospital try hard to make it not only a pleasant place to work, but a hospital we are proud to be a part of. Our hospital also is involved in some good community programs. I like my community, and I like my hospital. I just can't always approve of who makes the decisions on how it will be run.

Cons

We have a benefits package that costs us more and gives less each year. They have come close to bullying us for 2-3 years to get us to say how "satisfied" we are with the company and to that end they are willing to do allot for us, just as long as it doesn't cost much. Almost every process that we use each and every day from how we take care of our patients and the subsequent documentation, to the staff's continuing education has become much more difficult and time consuming since being acquired by CHS. I do not have the list of major stockholders in front of me but I would be willing to bet my paycheck against Wayne's that his name as well as those of the rest of the company's senior management are close to the top of that list. I say this because that always seems to be the true corporate mission, to maximize profits to the stockholders at all cost. Last December they decided to pay a $0.25 per share cash dividend to stockholders while every year we get minuscule merit increases if we get an increase at all. We have never had a cost of living increase even though our cost of living has skyrocketed and if we ask for a market analysis comparing our salaries to those at comparable hospitals we are told that they did not budget for any increase, so what would be the point. Now the latest in a long line of reasons why I am so "satisfied" is that I was just informed that they have arbitrarily decided to change the way our shift differentials are payed. This means that even though I will work the same 12 hour shifts that I have worked for years, I will get payed about $ 2000.00 less per year. I wonder how much Wayne's paycheck is being cut ? I am sure if I said all of this to any of the senior management from Nashville on down to the administration of my own hospital, they would be quick to tell me that in this economy I should just be thankful that I have a job at all. To this I would respond that I believe that they and most of the rest of their 2% are most responsible for the shape of our economy. I guess that's just one more reason I should thank them right ? To think, I used think that Columbia Health Care was bad to work for. As far as the question below about the corporation's business outlook goes. Here is what I believe. This corporation will make huge profits for it's stockholders...no matter what it takes.

IT is a sinking ship. Don't do it

Pros

* On a personality level, the people underneath the Company Leaders are down to earth and all know the place has problems. They are trying their best. They all understand the situation and that's why they're all leaving. Especially in IT. * This is a great place for sheep that don't want to get anywhere in life and prefer to just stagnate.

Cons

LEADERSHIP: * The majority are a joke. (Everyone knows who the good ones are. They work the most and achieve the most.) * These people can't even get simple organization right. It's like an retirement home that's running the place. * Not modern at all and lack real experience with engineering. * Nothing is up to date. * Management is using contractors to do all of the real work and leaving people with high Titles stuck with Support. * There are little to few people left and can't hire anyone local because they won't fall for the trap. * This company does not care about human life. Whatsoever. Anything they preach, it's a lie. If they did care, they would change. * The leaders are too busy fighting instead of working together. Especially with Security. * The company fragments itself and fights within those fragments. * All decisions are based on money and not the future of Healthcare SECURITY: * This has been the perfect example of what NOT to do in a company this big * They lock down access so hard that it impacts productivity company wide. * They don't do much work, They call themselves "Governance and Compliance" * Security leaders who let the company get hacked years ago are still there... They are also not playing nice with the rest of the company. PAY & Job Security: * They will undercut you any chance they get and yet they hire contractors at a higher price to do the real work..... ????? * They are having layoffs and the real numbers aren't even getting hit in the media.
