2022 RN wage is 35 base, night differential is 4.80, weekend differential is around 2. Up from 2020 RN wage of 32. This is $5 less per hour than St. Agnes, and likely $20 less than Kaiser. They will still tell you it’s a competitive wage. Heavy staffing losses during the pandemic means over-reliance on travelers, float pool, and new graduates. As of 2022, currently cancelling travel contracts and delegating float pool to the attempt to open a new tower. Complete disregard for staffing ratios is the norm in the ED. Piling patients into hall beds and insane wait times. It’s purportedly because the ED can’t turn away patients but you have to acknowledge that it is very profitable. Management and administration unable or unwilling to do anything meaningful towards employee retention. If you worked retail or fast food prior to your education, expect more of that. Widely regarded as the place you work at for the minimum amount of time to gain experience before leaving. If you expect a reasonable work life balance because you worked hard to get where you are, you will be disappointed. They put employees in a catch 22 of expecting them to take breaks and holding them responsible for it while not relieving them of patient care duties at all.
