Pros

Met new like-minded people and travelled to rural Indonesia meeting all kinds of people.

Cons

Traveling to rural areas really comes down to personal preference. I personally love backpacking and exploring new places, so it wasn't a downside for me, but I can understand that some people might feel uncomfortable traveling to more remote locations.
