Pros

I gained a lot of exposure to cloud technology and architecture patterns that worked well (or not). I made a few work friends. I worked very well with my immediate manager. Good 401K package and an ok healthcare plan.

Cons

Upper management was incredibly toxic and would lie or gaslight you on a dime. Daily requirement changes to our tickets was commonplace. Deadlines were not usually met, and every bug was a level-5 fire. There was huge pressure to accomplish tasks as quickly as possible. I find it a little hard to blame my immediate managers for this though: sh*t rolls downhill, and so they were probably getting pressured from up high and weren't happy about it either. I'm a little more understanding than others I know, though. I can say this: I once asked the director of my department for more support a month or two after I joined, and was told to work overtime and that I wouldn't be coddled. I was already working 50-70 hour weeks just to come up to speed since (1) documentation was severely lacking, and (2) on-boarding was basically non-existant. Hearing that was one of the low points of my tenure. Being told to embrace the chaos was another. I'm so glad I got out when I did. I heard it got worse.

Good and bad, proceed with caution

Pros

They are trying to "enhance" the work culture. Adding coffee shop, cafeteria, gym, and telling employees to come into office more. Direct management historically has been very supportive, understanding and down to earth. Very much a "we are adults, just get your work done" attitude.

Cons

The company, as a whole, needs to do some self reflection. The outreach and diversity groups seem forced. There is no room for growth or promotions. Raises are 3-5% YOY. I was told at one point to "wait my turn" and "put in the time" when I inquired about moving to a more senior role even after being repeatedly told I was performing at a senior level. They recently went through layoffs and the way everything unfolded, it wouldn't surprise me if they are looking for a buyer or new investors. There are two locations, Pittsburgh and NJ - the teams are very disjointed and do not work together well.
