Convenient office locations. In touch with community needs. Good training for new graduates.

Cons

Lower salaries and higher benefit costs than neighboring counties. Work load is high due to poor staff retention (due to salary/benefit issue).

Decent pay compared to rural counties, and a few nice co-workers. Some opportunities for training. County cars are available for use by field inspectors. Inspectors come from diverse backgrounds.

Cons

Low pay compared to Bay Area Counties. Lots of deductions for Healthcare premiums and retirement. Management is dictatorial and engages in extreme favoritism when it comes to promotions. Lots of workplace bullying by management and by co-workers. Management does not validate the hard work that some employees perform. Management engages in extreme micromanagement and sadly things will only get worse in the future due to the constant improvement in technology (metrics). No opportunities for growth or promotions. GPS on County Cars. Management circulates subtle threats to keep employees under stress.
