Pros

COOK has a great culture within the company that binds and motivates an individual whether they be in Senior Management or on the assembly line to one another and to the patient for whom they make quality products. Opportunity is given to those who ask for it and consistency in success is rewarded well. Quality and loyalty is high-stressed in this company, and they practice what they preach.

Cons

COOK pays about average as far as salaries go, they say it evens out with the good benefits that they provide (this is true they provide very good benefits), but unfortunately their salary offers are not as high as their competitors and that is probably the reason why they have a problem with employee retention.

Pros

Cook Medical, Inc. is a large organization with products in a wide range of clinical fields. The vast majority of people are nice and Cook Medical, Inc. has never had a single layoff since its foundation. It is also rumored that no one in Engineering has been fired before.

Cons

Cook Medical, Inc. is not one of the places you will go for cutting edge technology and intellectuals. Over 90% of the Engineers obtained their degrees from the mid-west area and there are no graduates from top tier universities. Moreover, there is a lot of gossip and politics between those who grew up in southern Indiana and those who didn't. As you might expect, promotions are not based on skill or engineering expertise, but rather on seniority and how much you could brown-nose your Engineering team-leader. (Your team-leader is not your boss, but they do report updates to your direct manager.) Everything is also highly unorganized, beginning with the fact that most product managers don't know anything about the basic functional requirements of a project. There is no formal pathway between going from early feasibility run to a design concept freeze, and once a design concept freeze is reached, there is no proper training of how to incorporate process validations and what requirements are required by Quality Engineering. It is not uncommon for new engineers to wonder: "Why is this company not losing any money?"
