Pros

There are some very competent and qualified people who work very hard and care about the population that they serve day to day. Overtime is always available due to staff shortages.

Cons

Toxic work environment. Senior management at the facility level and above rule with fear and threats of punishment. Employees are objectified and depersonalized. Very poor work/life balance even considering it's a correctional environment. Morale is poor. Minimal room for advancement unless you're willing to relocate. Turnover is very high due to poor pay and morale.

Thank you for your feedback. We all appreciate the work that our counselors do in our facilities. Helping the inmates in our care make positive life choices and changes is critical to reducing recidivism.

Pros

Officers can make a living, though at what cost to themselves?

Cons

Pay is 50% below market value for anyone other than an Officer. Benefits are expensive and not very good to begin with. No raises, very small bonus except for the warden (20%+). Very dangerous facility. 33 staff assaults in 2018. Half needed to go to the hospital, At least 3 needed surgery. 2019 is on pace to easily break the 2018 record. Employees feel that management doesn't care about them, but it all leads back to the warden and/or corporate. Several managers have been wrongfully terminated by the warden with approval from corporate, a few others have left voluntarily before they could be fired. The bottom line is that the warden sank this place and is doing anything she can to save herself. It wasn't enough and she's finally leaving. Any hope of getting Leavenworth back to where it used to be was gone a long time ago. Staffing is a major problem. More people were quitting than could be hired. We brought in help from other facilities but it used to be 4 at a time, now it's over 20.
