Pros

Strong research focus and a deep bench of resources to back it up, with a good focus on outreach and public education.

Cons

Due to funding structure and organisation, collaboration isn't a top priority thus wheels are reinvented.

Pros

Some really smart professors and students. You can get connections to the outside too. Sometimes projects can have good impact if you get the chance and work hard.

Cons

It depends really on the professor you are working with. If s/he does not have an idea or good projects, it really is not fun and a waste of time.
