Pros

Great peers and you will learn a lot since you are just thrown into the fire.

Cons

No training period, learn on your own, work overload and lack of judgement from management on employee satisfaction. Quick to lay off, pretty cyclical. Job security is always an issue.

Pros

Pretty stable, little risk of layoffs. But at the same time, not very exciting. Think of them as a CD or savings bonds of employment - They don't pay very well, but they're safe. The benefits are average, maybe slightly below. Vacation time is standard 3 years, but their health plans were getting worse each year by the time I left. They have good work/life balance - standard 8 hour work days, no need to really work overtime or weekends.

Cons

The software work is rather mundane. Cafeteria is non-existent. Overall, rather boring company, and many of the most competent engineers leave after a few years. A lot of the middle/upper management have been there for a long time and are set in their ways/capabilities. They're an established player in the credit report market, so they play things safe.

Pros

Great people and a relaxed atmosphere.

Cons

I had many great years here, but the last 18 months really poisoned my outlook. Management seems to be making it up as they go. And many of the perks disappeared. WFH policy was fairly liberal, now there is no working from home. In some groups you could expect a normal 40 hour week, others were working 80 with no end in sight. This may be peculiar to my department, but one of the worst organized, poorly performing groups resisted every effort to follow any semblance of a rational development, QA, implementation cycle. People who were formerly top performers came into this group only to be let go. I feel like this is where my career went to die.
