Media company - need I say more?

Pros

Corporate office talks a good game and does provide some decent benefits/perks

Cons

But this is a media company and they are scrambling like all the others. It depends on the title, but the atmosphere on the title I worked on was poisonous. Several people left with nothing to go to while inept managers are left in place.

Pros

-Beautiful new Chicago location -Everyone is very courteous and friendly -Decent salary and benefits (if you didn't get them slashed during the 2009 crash) -The publications that do well are the ones with people that break away from the hierarchical drudgery

Cons

-Too much of a "whatever the boss/publisher/CEO says goes" mentality -Collaboration is said to be condoned, but most departments and publications have an entrenched territorial atmosphere -Employee happiness and good office culture are obviously not a priority. -The company doesn't even trust its employees to book a meeting room without an interpersonal manager as a go-between. -Independent projects, new positions and fresh approaches are often stalled or halted altogether due to lack of enthusiasm or office politics

Good colleagues overshadowed by toxic leadership and mismanagement

Business Outlook

Pros

Some good people within the rank and file.

Cons

Toxic culture from above, gross mismanagement, nonstop verbal abuse from leadership, constant change for the sake of change, questionable audience numbers, no idea how to run a business- which is ironic for a B2B publisher, horrible internal communications, reactive not proactive.
