Pros

Summer hours - you go home at 2pm on Fridays. You never have to meet deadlines (if that's a pro to you!)

Cons

- Your bosses or the management have no idea what they're doing or how things can be done - Skills of people chosen as management are: irresponsible, incompetent or political. Anyone else is just lucky. - The only way to succeed: play dirty politics, stay lazy not to find a better job, pretend you have a ton to do, and do nothing because you make everything so hard - People are laid off for no apparent reason. Some were let go saying the role no longer exists, and then new people were hired for the same role. There's no rationale at anything and no one cares. - Passive aggressive behavior is encouraged. - Management can choose not to have end of year reviews, or follow any corporate or ethical practices. - The reasons why you work at this company despite knowing all this - 1) You can't find another job, 2) You are waiting to be fired because that will give you good severance because you've worked here long enough , 3) You don't care about having a career and have other priorities in life, 4) You are a passive aggressive bully

Pros

Free parking, deli in building, salespeople not accountable for performance, $.50 soda in breakroom (thanks Mr. Crain)

Cons

Unable to demonstrate ROI to customers, zero digital offering, doesn't develop talent, small audience scale, plunging circulation, publisher with no sales acumen/experience has been bullying employees for years and HR turns a blind eye, entitled heir apparent who's leadership initiatives have been complete failures for example shopautoweek.com.

Pros

The corporate team in Chicago seems to know what they are doing.

Cons

Lack of leadership. Everything depends on which publication you work for. You either have everything you need to do your job and be successful or nothing at all. All publications operate in a silo separate from each other and when you do communicate to other publications to share ideas and best practices it is frowned upon.
