Pros

Very relaxed place to work, you are eitehr doing nothing or you get hit with a ton of work. The company is really trying to hold on and re-evaluate their mission and how to say relevant.

Cons

The entire management team is in Detriot. Not many oppurtinites to connect with anyone in person, very siloed workplace. Salary is Detriot based and does not get adjusted for NYC cost of living.

Made it to 100 years - remember how you got there.

Pros

Great reputation, exceptional reporting and high journalistic integrity. These are important qualities during a time when most media is becoming the bad guy.

Cons

Whereas most companies strive for diversity and value hard work and talent, Crain is sliding the opposite direction. It's a man's world. Hard work and talent not required. Additionally, year-end bonus and retirement programs are ending at the end of this year. Aetna insurance is mediocre and the company does not help by contributing to your HSA. Bare minimum maternity leave, meaning FMLA minimum. The direction of the business has taken multiple missteps since being run by the next generation. Bad decisions and bad leadership are resulting in closing of brands, cutting of benefits, and major layoffs. It's certainly not easy to be successful in publishing in 2016, however it's not a difficult concept that you must adapt with your employees and readers not the other way around.
