Pros

Employee reviews, regular business reviews by management, technology upgrades/investments. Management consistently looks for ways to improve business and revenue. There is also a sense that management has genuine regard for employees.

Cons

Can be highly political and tends to be staffed a bit too lean. This inhibits the best possible performance from most employees. Communication between business units tends to happen in silos. The political nature can also prohibit them from addressing areas of concern that could better benefit all.

Good place to stay

Pros

Journalistic values, strong editorial-first culture. Treats employees like human beings. Gold-plated benefits, better than many bigger companies.

Cons

Very traditional, wrinkles of family ownership. New media world has produced a bit of a throw-it-at-wall-see-what-sticks situation, but that's probably unavoidable.
