- Willing to give lots of responsibility to lower level expat staff in the field - Good work/life balance - Reasonable benefits for those abroad - High quality of highly experienced managers (on some projects)

Cons

- Poor management of HR - Underpaid lower level staff - Dependent on USAID, project objectives tied to fixed funding cycles (but so are all dev contractors) - Intended development objectives often difficult to meet

Pros

It’s a great opportunity to work with USAID’s largest project in Yemen, understand USAID’s mentality as a donor and contribute in developing my own country or any country in need of development assistance.

Cons

Governments in developing countries especially in Yemen must change its way of thinking and realize that any donor or international NGO can only offer a specific help and technical assistance in only development related issues and for a short period of time. The reality is that Yemeni leadership/ government thinks they can be totally dependent on donors, which I find it a huge mistake. Some awareness provided about donor’s role is very important.
