Pros

They have balconies where you can go eat lunch in peace. It's very metro accessible. The building is connected to a series of underground hallways so you don't have to go outside in the winter.

Cons

They take no regard to placing senior staff in positions relevant to their experience. They do not share information between departments; it's a very turf-centric ideology and every department is silo'd; we have to reinvent the wheel each time something comes up. Senior management is not privy to what staff are doing. Middle management hides it from them.

Positive HQ Experience and Mixed Field Experiences

Pros

I was an employee of Creative Associates, both in the field and at HQ. My experiences at HQ were overwhelmingly positive. My supervisors were all very hands-on and management was organized and mission-driven.

Cons

The problem at Creative Associates is that they view their Chiefs of Party in the field as gods. So, when you have an excellent Chief of Party, who advocates and treats you well (which I did for many years), you're golden but when you don't have a good Chief of Party, you're pretty screwed. In my particular case, on a large, complex OTI-program in Afghanistan, instead of hiring experienced managers, Creative hired three men with little to no management experience and set them loose on a large, complex contract. I was ostracized and in a scene that I still cannot imagine occurred, made redundant by powerpoint presentation. They presented an organization chart where my position and name were no longer present and forgot to tell me in advance. Needless to say, risking in my life in Afghanistan, no longer felt quite so warranted after their thoughtless act.

Great work, problematic organization

Pros

Lots of fantastic colleagues who are intelligent, hard-working, and fun. The content of the job is exciting and interesting. Junior staff get a lot of responsibility, technical work, and travel.

Cons

The organization does not invest in its people. Training is a joke, professional development is not taken seriously, and growth is at a snail's pace.
