Pros

I've been at Cruise for 2 years and my favorite thing about the company is the culture of ownership such that even junior engineers are trusted with the responsibility of researching, defining, implementing, and maintaining a feature. At the intersection of research and productionization, ICs get a wide variety of experiences and the opportunity to grow their careers. Cruise has some great leaders in the field, who are excellent mentors for those who are just starting out and those who are more advanced. I've learned so much at Cruise and am looking forward to what I'll learn in the future.

Cons

Cruise has experienced hyper-growth over the past 2+ years, causing a fair amount of churn in org and process conventions. Work/life balance is whatever you make of it, causing some to find it difficult to self-define boundaries (especially with WFH due to shelter in place in recent months).

Pros

Every day is exciting at Cruise. The culture is extremely fast-paced, with very high expectations of quality. As an engineer here, your work is directly impactful--and it's easy to measure this impact in the bi-weekly metrics that are presented after the AVs drive thousands of miles. It keeps you in check to have fast feedback on the amazing effect a new feature you rolled out has on the AV (or how you maybe need to do more work on the feature). I have never been surrounded by so many motivated, intelligent, kind, and conscientious individuals before on a day-to-day basis. I am so glad I stumbled upon Cruise as my first job out of graduate school.

Cons

The AV industry is sometimes disappointing because of the difficulty of the problem. But this is true of all AV companies.
