Not a great place to work.

Pros

The pros of working for this company ... The Pay? And possibly a few cool co-workers that you can coerce with about how bad it sucks working there. They like to play up the free food, booz, and games - But this is only a lure in my opinion.

Cons

They say a company reflects their leadership - and in this case it sure does. This is a fear based place to work. The office is run by a "boys club". The organization of this place is NILL. The leadership changes their mind at the drop of a dime and will turn on anyone that doesn't agree with them. Many days I left crying from work. And witnessed others doing the same. A little story I'd like to share about this place: A few weeks after I announced my pregnancy to JUST the management team (I had to spill the beans because they were painting in the office and they refused my request to work from home when I began feeling sick / they then proceeded to set up a desk for me outside in the parking lot instead of letting me go home...) Soon after, I received an email asking for me to announce my pregnancy to the entire office. (I was only 8 weeks pregnant and was waiting until 12) Then to add fuel to the fire - My job duties began being stripped of me, the management began bullying me, and I was basically pushed out of my position. The day I quit, I was balling because of a meeting that I had just been demoralized in.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to add these comments to our page. Although it is very painful to hear, feedback like this it is greatly appreciated. As an employer, we have an obligation to make sure there is zero tolerance for any discrimination based on a person’s race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran. Your experience as you describe is deeply troubling and is not something we would want to happen at CrystalCommerce. We recently held a meeting with our female employees to provide them with a safe platform to address any concerns you have. While none of our current female employees expressed feelings of discrimination, we are assessing our office culture, improving sexual harassment prevention training tools, and reviewing the issue of discrimination with our current department managers. CrystalCommerce does not tolerate discrimination of any kind. In closing, I want to express on the behalf of our senior management team and as someone charged with the well-being of CrystalCommerce employees, that the treatment you described is something we take seriously. If there is anything else that you’d like to share please contact me a hr@crystalcommerce.com as I’d be more than happy to take the time and hear what you have to say. Pros

People who work here really care about the members. There was also a time when company morale and culture was great and the company really valued your efforts to improve your job performance. I have personally experienced a lot of professional growth during those times.

Cons

Not enough effort is being put into fixing their systems and it's evident with the dwindling number of users. Resources were being depleted by new development projects that are poorly scoped and never seem to get to a point of completion, while their users are either leaving or sucking it up because there's no other option in the market. I felt bad for the onboarding, sales and support team because they are having to pay lip service to the disgruntled members. Last I heard, they are laying off people left and right to keep the cost down. Hopefully it's not too late for the sake of the members.

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience here at CrystalCommerce! Although it pains us to hear that you had a negative experience, I am glad to hear that your time here contributed to your growth as a professional. Your feedback is very much appreciated and we will continually look for ways to improve our culture and morale going forward. CrystalCommerce is, and always will be, a technology company. This starts with great leadership and we are making strides to improve this area of our company. We are currently looking for a full-time person to head up our engineering department, in a addition to trusted advisors and partners that can help us make sound technology decisions. We hope this results in a better core product for our members in 2018 and provides us with a platform that our employees can continue to be proud of. In closing, we appreciate the hard work and effort that you and others have done to make our product great, and welcome any additional feedback you may have. Sincerely, CrystalCommerce Leadership

Pros

Let me tell you something I have had many jobs ever since I was 18 years old, and all of those jobs cannot even compare to working for Crystal Commerce. I've had jobs where bosses lied and cut me out of overtime I worked, not allowed me to even take a 5 minute break thinking I was slacking (lol), and just flat didn't care about your thoughts on how to improve the company. This company actively seeks out your thoughts, your opinions, what you think can make your department better, and they supply you with anything you want. If you need new software they buy it, new hardware they buy it. Heck we asked for a TV and got a brand new flat screen like 60" and play video games anytime we desire. We get a fully stocked kitchen of food every 3-4 weeks, a fooseball table, xbox, you name it. Sometimes we do pot lucks where everyone brings in food and we all eat it, for birthdays the company buys you a cake and sings to you, we even have a liquor cabinet for anyone who wants a beer! We have two adorable cats that love attention, and we can pet them anytime we want. The company makes tshirts, hats, stickers, even coats and gladly gives them to us, I wear my shirt all the time. For anyone who likes playing Magic: The Gathering we have a game room where people are playing all the time, and no one gets on them for it. This company relies on trust and assumes you are doing the right thing and managing your time properly. I've never even been yelled at by a manager, which has happened at almost all my old jobs, I almost felt like it should have happened by now! The company is flexible, if you need to take the day off, goto school, go on a date, it don't matter they are super lenient on what you need to do in your life. I've never seen anyone get in trouble for being busy, we just make up the time later. Sometimes we may need to work from home, and as long as your a designer or developer they are cool with that as long as they know your reliable. We have a big parking lot, you don't need to park on a street and pay like in Seattle, so it's nice that we are located in Mountlake Terrace.

Cons

Having a company being so open and lenient I have seen many people come thru here and get used to this environment, they then get upset when things don't go their way or aren't perfect. Having a stocked kitchen people start to expect food from the company and complain when there's nothing to eat, LOL first world problems? Management being so lenient people then can't handle when it's time to put the foot down if they messed up, they act like they shouldn't be blamed or micro managed, okay really more first world problems? This company is only 6-7 years old and when I started I was sitting in a bed room because they rented out an apartment, we then relocated to a nice big place in Mountlake Terrace. Can a business this new be perfect and know how to compete with everyone? Of course not so yes it needs work by learning and making mistakes. The company charges low amounts for new websites so it can sort of not allow a designer to work to his fullest potential due to the hour restraints, but then there is larger budget projects that give them that time. Lot's of parts of the online framework were coded by random people so there's lots of old and outdated things that need to be recoded to make the platform perform better. I see some people mentioning the CEO, he has his bad days and can put his hammer down on you when things weren't done the way he expected, but over the years I've seen him work on himself etc. I've seen him get on people, but he's never done that to me. Just expect that if you aren't doing what's right someones gonna say something about that, that's life.
