Pros

Fantastic place to work. Outstanding people. Strong management. Good recognition and support for work/life balance. Significant focus and support for diversity. Not what one expects for an automotive company based in the Midwest. Compensation is known to be about average for the industry. Heavy six sigma focus is deeply entrenched. A company of high integrity and ethics.

Cons

There is a high performance ethic. You won't be expected to work extraordinarily long hours but you will be expected to make solid contributions. The annual rating and ranking is rigorously maintained and applied. Two years straight in the lower group and separation is the most likely outcome.

Pros

Cummins is a very cool place to work. What we do is provide the engines needed to move and build anything all over the world. They pay moderate, but the work isn't all that hard. Its a very large company much like the US government, you do very little!

Cons

its a corporation, that basically sums it up!! Terrible IT, if you need something...learn indian, as thats where the call centers are. Also there is way to much time and energy spent on six sigma projects. At the end of the day, any work can be completed with trained and confident indivduals. Once you are hired on, immediately find someone that can help train you. As the company gives you no or minimal training. And if you work hard, do your job better than anyone else, come to work with a smile on your face....dont expect anything for it. They dont believe in positive reinforcement

Pros

Two things - people and potential. The people who work at Cummins are some of the greatest folks that you'll ever meet. They (highly) value their personal time - including time with their family and friends - and they treat work as important but not THE most important thing in their lives. The potential for this company is huge - not only from a financial growth perspective but also from a process improvement perspective. When given the opportunity and management buy-in to improve something, the results are awe-inspiring.

Cons

IT is backwards. Much of the work is outsourced to vendors who can't code, can't speak English, and have no understanding of the fundamentals of end to end programming. In addition, there is an internal shared services group for infrastructure which cares more about how to eak money out of the business then in actually delivering and sustaining systems. Personnel doesn't have their act together either. There's a lack of coordination for bringing on new people. It's like once they are hired, people forget that they need the basics to do their job. Six sigma is something that many folks are supposed to do but in many cases, it's not true to what the discipline is. While there are ways to improve things through a six sigma process, not everything fits into that structure yet, if it is labeled potentially cost saving, it will be shoved into that structure.
