Pros

Flexible hours. Generally open communication. Fair compensation for contract lab. Family atmosphere.

Cons

My site became fairly siloed over time. Not a lot of cross training or advancement opportunities. Occupies small niche in marketplace, so if doing the bench chemistry it is difficult to stay in the niche at other companies and you will not necessarily develop scientific skills valuable to other companies. Unless you have a strong chemistry lab background, I would recommend leaving after a few years. Upon being laid off, no transfer opportunities, even for positions I was supposedly qualified for.
