Pros

AMRI has a good location in Albany in relation to highways, cafeteria on site is well run with by nice people, most peers are helpful getting up to speed.

Cons

Very unstable management structure. Expectation that employees will live and breath AMRI, no work/life balance, Very poor communication internally. Scientific team and Business Development teams are very disfunctional and combative. Sr. Management and HR do not care about their employees in any way, shape or form.

Pros

The people who actually do the work there (ie the scientists, technicians and lab aides) are hard working (they have to be otherwise they get fired!), dedicated and talented (those who haven't been laid off in the most recent round of "payroll adjustment" that is). You get to work on a wide variety of different chemistry projects, and you'll certainly never be bored.

Cons

Where to start? I regularly worked 55-60 hour weeks, 7am to at least 5pm (frequently later) during the week, often coming in at weekends (I would estimate I worked about 30% of my weekends). On at least three occasions I had to work 24 hours straight. Eventually I was burned out. When business tanked during 2009 I was let go, and in an extremely unpleasant manner. Compensation was not, in my opinion, commensurate with the effort I put into the job. The management philosophy of the place was definitely much more stick than carrot. The caliber of most of the management there was nothing short of abysmal.

Pros

Was able to negotiate a competitive base salary.

Cons

In my opinion the LakePharma acquisition was a mistake and management never really understood what they were buying. In September 2021 6 sites and 235 employees joined but 2.5 years later only 2 sites remain open with maybe 75 people. This extreme cost cutting means no investment in innovation or instrumentation and most work is being done by hand. High prices, increasing competition, and a lack of leadership have resulted in an underperforming business. For a 3300+ person company the marketing department is a joke HIGH TURNOVER in all departments = HUGE RED FLAG Private Equity owners = only care about profits and will likely close or sell off more sites this year Talk with some former employees before accepting a job
