Lack of Equity and Empathy

Business Outlook

Pros

Opportunities to try new things, take on special projects. Fair pay and benefits if you are an average employee. You may luck out to be on a good team with an effective supervisor.

Cons

Odd, stubborn, sometimes unethical Montana culture. Strong location bias. You will have a better chance for access to supervisor and leaders and therefore support and opportunities for advancement if you are in a Montana office and if you are a white male. There are a lot of corporate programs that are not effective because they there is no accountability or it is the bare minimum and seems like lip service such as having no standards for review times or content. The IT is not great. Expect to waste a lot of time with work-arounds for technology not working and disorganization on the server.

It’s disappointing to hear you had this experience, and it’s not what we wish for our team members. You’ve said many important things here, and your message will be shared with Cushing Terrell’s leadership team. We’re always on a learning and discovery journey to continually improve, and we appreciate your feedback. Part of what you experienced could be due to the rapid growth we’ve seen over the past couple of years. Accommodating a fully dispersed team and adjusting our internal structure has been an evolving process, one we hope gets better and better as we pay close attention to feedback such as yours and the input from team members. At the same time, we’ve invested in efforts such as justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion training and goal setting that will help us ensure a positive, supportive work environment for everyone across our locations, as well as remote workers. We hear you and we wish you all the best.

In alignment with our firm’s values, we are on a learning journey with a company called Team Dynamics, which specializes in JEDI (justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion) training. We believe this is important for our firm and our team members as it gives us a greater awareness and empathy of where each of us is coming from and how we can make meaningful, respectful connections in the workplace and beyond.
