Pros

Co-workers are intelligent, hard working, and enjoyable.

Cons

Management can set unreasonable goals and expect folks to work overtime or weekends to get things done. The company policy is hypocritical. For example, they happily promote doing good things for the world, but all the recycling bins are ironically emptied into dumpsters that go to the landfill. If HR doesn't want to acknowledge a problem they ignore it. Upper management has dedicated their life to the company. If you want to rise in the ranks, prepare to do the same. You will become a servant to the CEO. Employees are underpaid and under appreciated.

Pros

For women engineers it’s a pretty solid place to work in entry level positions. Learn a lot in 2-3 years then move on to a better company. Men can work there forever and stay relatively happy with plenty of growth opportunities especially if you are overconfident.

Cons

DEKA is a “boy’s club” is something I was told my first year there by another female engineer. At first, I didn’t really get what that meant but after working there for years I have over 10 examples of female engineers in management positions who were moved out of their roles and replaced by men. A couple of the men in upper management are unable to work with intelligent females who have a backbone and say no to them. These are untouchable men at DEKA and if you feel harassed or disrespected by them, HR will just tell you to leave the company as their number 1 priority is making sure the men on top are happy.

Pros and Cons of Working Here

Pros

Great place to get experience if you are an ambitious person. Take the job here if you're looking for experience, or simply love engineering work above all else. Depending on who you end up working for, they will likely throw you into the work environment with minimal training, if any at all. You're expected to immediately start contributing, which really forces you to work independently and think on your feet.

Cons

They take pride in getting as much work as they can out of you while paying as little as they possibly can. Expect to be paid 20-30% below fair market salary. Highly political environment. Organization could be better. Overtime work is an expectation in some situations- very dependent on the project and who you end up working for.
