Pros

Pays good for those who negotiated their pay well

Cons

Management have NO concept of personal time. When you are hired, you surrender your personal time. Working 24hrs multiple times a week is not an issue to management. Zero risk taking, very hard to bring in a new tool to use. Can't move up if you do not know to speak Japanese or served time in Japan. No matter how much cost saving ideas you promote; Management is very skillful to shooting each down, many are unmotivated, stopped bringing new ideas, found a corner to hide and get paid. Japanese mentality, "work hard, not smart".

Pros

Sometimes you get to work on interesting projects. Usually they follow through on promises to pay out bonuses and give raises. Most of the people that work here are intelligent and not lazy.

Cons

If you love tons of Lotus Notes Databases, Office 2003, Windows, XP, Internet Explorer 6, and having the rest of the technology you use being 8 years older than the old technology than this is the place for you (For reference: it's August 2011 and Windows XP was released in 2001). Also, you must love working OT without being paid for it and be prepared to never be promoted unless you work in HR, Sales or Engineering. Japanese Management does not communicate with Americans and most can barely speak English.

Pros

I get a GREAT end of year bonus, and 2 extra weeks a year off usually for the 4th of July and Christmas.

Cons

The top out pay for maintenance has only risen less than a dollar in 5 years. The maintenance management has been promoted from within and struggle. Technicians with broader skills and styles are leaving because of the incompatibility with the management and no chance of promotion. Look at some of the GREAT leaders that have stepped down. NO DEPARTMENT SENIORITY. How can you bring someone from production with ZERO maintenance experience through an apprenticeship and then in 3 years give them access to 1st shift while you have higher skilled workers with 15 plus years in maintenance forced to stay on 2nd or 3rd. Rules prevent SHIFT TO SHIFT in a transfer to another area unless you have been at the same job post for 10 years. So you quit instead of finding happiness in another building possibly. Why would any company want to prevent an employee from moving to the same shift if it is an off-shift anyway?
