Pros

Clients are difficult but amazing, great place to learn about social work and expose yourself to truly all different ways of doing this work (people are in vastly different places in terms of mental illness, addiction and recovery), allows for a lot of freedom in how work is done with clients including a lot of outreach if desired, frequently do activities with clients in the community, great vacation benefits, agency generally prioritizes clients' needs over all others

Cons

Low pay, lots of paperwork (which can limit free time to do work with clients if you're bad at managing it), recent shift in management that seems to prioritize management needs vs employees, work can be difficult and exhausting--you really need to manage trauma stewardship/secondary trauma, doesn't tend to generally offer vast opportunities in terms of employee growth (i.e. supervision hours for licensure, training budgets, higher-level trainings, flexibility around educational needs)
