As with any company there are areas that could be improved on. Everyone has their own ideas of how things could better or changed. I do think that many people do not have the big picture of what it takes to run a company the size of DR Horton. The regulations today have become very cumbersome and exact. Most people only see their department and not how every department fits into the whole home buying process. While I feel it is a great company and there is a lot of communication I do think that many times it does not get down to the worker bees. There are a lot of meetings and information to middle managers and supervisors but it does not get to the ones that need to know the most. Also employees learn more from their coworkers than the training department. The training department just reads bulletins or courses. I believe there should be more hands on training. Classes should be smaller where people can interact with each other instead of 75 to 100 people on a call where the instructor just reads the information. There could be some real examples and situations that employees can actually learn from. You can't go to your manager when they were on the same call and do not know the information either. There could be hands on manager training so they could help their employees with questions. But then again I do understand the constraints of training new employees. There also seems to be cliques and if you are not a part of them, you usually do not know what is going on. My area has 2 VP's, and asst VP and middle managers. Everyone but 2 of the middle managers are a group and spend time together. The other 2 are usually left out of company information but then are expected to know it. Don't get me wrong, these are not issues specific to DHI. There are negatives everywhere even if you ran your own company. I feel the greatness of the company out weighs the negative. Also not everyone is there for the company or to do the right thing. Then again some people just want to complain or be drama kings and queens.
