Pros

Worked downtown; it presented a laid back atmosphere; casual dress for employees, I got along well with management; was not questioned on decisions and was backed up by management.

Cons

I was an ex-Airborne employee and worked temporarily for DHL after they took over our beloved Airborne. The way this was handled was never very comfortable. There were people that had 20+ (some even 30+) years of service to a company that was not very honest with them when DHL took over. Airborne executives really only wanted one thing and that was lots and lots of cash. Employees that spent a good chunk of their youth/life at the corporate offices were let go without so much as a thank you. It was handled so disgracefully. My heart goes out to all those that stayed to the bitter end. Best of luck to you.

Pros

DHL Express did pay decent salaries as compared to similiar companies in the metro area.

Cons

Working there was stressful. They merged employees from different companies(Airborne, Danzas, DHL) but different company cultures didn't mesh well. The end result was more like a quilt than a melting pot. Also I was worried the whold time just how long would I have a job. Looking at their business model, I just couldn't see how they would ever become profitable in the US Market. Unfortunately in time it turned out my instincts were right. I count myself as one of the lucky ones who left before the job market soured.

Pros

DHL is a global company with a lot of opportunities in various countries. While it is true that they are closing within the United States, the global part of the company is very profitable. The salaries were above industry average and work life balance was very strong. In regards to the benefit structure, DHL is generous with medicle, vision, dental, vacation policy and the pension plan is great. DHL Logistics and Global Forwarding are staying open within the United States so DHL will still be around and Duetsch Post's Global Mail also has operations here. I think that DHL may have been poorly run in the U.S. but as a Global Corporation is an outstanding employer.

Cons

The management in the United States has to be seperated into the proper areas. There was U.S. Express, Global Business Servies, Global Forwarding and Logistics. Global Business Servies were run locally but managed out of Europe and the U.S. Management lacked communication skills but the European Management is a very efficient team. The U.S. Management became caught up in what most large American Corporations do which was to cover their tracks instead of fostering creativity and out of the box thinking. When Management is so overpaid as they are, some focus gets lost on making sure the core competencies remain intact. The Directors and V.P's are incompetent because America fosters bad management. This is a national issue not a DHL one.
