Pros

Smart people, great building, nice amenities, successful company overall, young product development team: pro because you get to wear a lot of hats, pro because you make an impact. Very busy and fast paced environment.

Cons

Management is just out for themselves, or scared for their lives....or both. Talent isn't appreciated, corporate politics are. I experienced a lot of two faced incidents. Very difficult to get a noticeable salary increase or a job grade raise. TRAFFIC, that highway....omg. Unrealistic deadlines, and not good for a creative person.

Pros

great headquarters, huge gym, bank and Starbucks in building

Cons

HUGE disconnect between upper management and the people actually doing the work. Lots and lots of VP and Director levels delegating work to a minimal staff. Company would prefer to bring in outside talent rather than promote their own. Happens in many departments. Keep in mind that I've been with the company for over 8 years! I've given it a fair shot with many management changes, but sadly, I feel its my time to leave. I would like to advance in my career and Dicks is not the place to do it.

Pros

Some of the directors and PMs are really pushing to do internal applications the right way, with a focus on developing internal solutions for the business, rather than just buying an off-the-shelf package that doesn't do half of what the business needs.

Cons

The Applications and Infrastructure groups don't seem to get along very well. There is a pervasive belief that one developer is the same as any other. Additionally, there is the belief that software development is just like installing a server - a set of steps that lead to a working product, rather than a creative process.
