Pros

As a salaried manager, you are guarranteed a steady paycheck. The health (medical, dental, vision) are better than most retailers, way better. Dick's matches .50 to every $1 you put in your 401(k). They offer tuition reimbursement up to $2000 a year. Fast paced, always changing, and plenty of things to do!

Cons

Salaried managers never, ever work 40 hours a week. Shifts are minimum 10 hours a day, 5 days a week and you're lucky if you only work 50 hours a week but you get paid for 40. Once in a sales manager position, you are on your own to move up the food chain. Little to no professional growth or asistment in career advancement. Degrees mean NOTHING to Dick's- managers with high school degrees make the same amount of money as ones with bachelor's or master's degrees. Little to no training on how to be a manager (if you get promoted from an hourly position)- especially in HR training. Don't plan of being recognized for achievements... And plan on training yourself.

Pros

None. This company is led poorly from the very top down. Middle-management is lethargic, soft, and unprepared for everything. DSG performance upon entering California was embarrassing. Most stores were not even turning a profit--so no bonus money for management. The distribution process was archaic and inconsistent, so good luck driving sales creatively without solid merchandise flow. Whoever was ordering for the region, was not competent.

Cons

- Management members are, on average, undereducated (this means they use poor tactics to run their teams/stores--usually using fear or subterfuge to accomplish anything--there is no team building, there is no motivation or incentives). I had one store manager who would rub ear pieces in his butt (skin) and then he would give it to people he didn't like. He would intentionally crop dust (fart) around employees he didn't like. He would use profanity and some of the most unprofessional insults and mannerisms I had ever seen, anywhere. I put my two weeks in immediately after experiencing some of this, but the DM transferred me somewhere else (because I was highly qualified and incredibly competent--I turned two of his stores around in less than two months). The new place was with a new store manager who had zero courage and the staff walked all over her. She had no business running errands, let alone a store. Her favorites, stood around doing nothing. As much as I tried to reverse some of these things, it all starts at the top. It was embarrassing. The average leader at this Company was physically and mentally lazy, soft, uneducated and prone to jealousy. I shouldn't have to write any more...but I can so I will. - Recruiters are terrible. They lie about salaries, which is illegal by the way. They are unwilling to share salary ranges with you during the negotiating part of an interview. Illegal. - Most of middle management still subscribe to the good 'ol boy club--the women who are promoted here subscribe to it too--don't be fooled. Most, if not all, these managers were pursuing romance with their staff. Very unprofessional. - Being intelligent and experienced is a disadvantage here, it will only make the many poorly equipped leaders feel insecure about their own leadership. - The company tries to be more structured like a Target or CVS, but fails miserably and comes off more like a high school student project on business leadership. It is like living in a household with many kids and no parents. If you have any self-respect, work somewhere else. Or at the very least, demand more $$ than you are worth to make up for it all.

Pros

Terrible leadership with too many politics. It’s not about building creative product, it’s about the leadership team going shopping and bringing back product to copy. Everyone will tell you that you are doing a good job to your face and talk bad about you behind your back back. Horrible for creatives.

Cons

Leadership team was the worst
