Pros

Dish is a great place for the bottom 20%. Scumbags thrive at Dish. If you are burdened by character faults that would keep you from being employed at good companies, you will find a home at Dish.

Cons

Pay and Benefits are 20-40% below industry standard. Management is systemically designed to subjugate employees. LEAD training is a joke. Managers openly dismiss it as a waste of time. Interdepartmental cooperation is non-existent. They abuse the H-1B visa system to hire Indian I.T. workers at 80% of the industry standard salary an American worker would command.

Having worked at DISH for 6+ years, I've seen the culture change for the positive and it is now a pleasurable place to contribute.

Cons

Has a bad, undeserved reputation. It takes a long time to change the culture of an organization but it is changing for the better.

I think Joe Clayton said it best in his Denver Business Journal interview: "In the meantime, we've made significant improvements. Not as fast as Wall Street would like, but when you're trying to turn a battleship, it takes a little while." Dish has great products and great opportunities for those who are dedicated and willing to work ethically and do the right thing. We've made a lot of progress and we're going to continue down that path.

Cons

It's not a free ride- you have to be willing to work for it.
