Pros

When the money is good it can be good. I am a top sales person at any company I work for, but with Dish I made 2k some weeks. Others I made 400, the sales pay structure is changed every 30 days or so.

Cons

Everything is a Con at Dish. The pay structure is changed so often that you never know what you are getting. Management is crazy, like no other place I have ever worked. I hated every second of working there, I was even promoted several times, but couldn't want to leave. I spent 2 years with this company providing for my family and that is the only reason. I have watched them walk out over 1000 people while I worked there. They never got over 200 sales reps but would fire everyone and anyone. I know of 3 people that quit, while over 1k were fired. Its a terrible place to work. 6 days a week, 11 hours a day, no questions asked or you are fired. You can be a total of 15 minutes late per year. So if you are 10 minutes late 1 day then you have 5 minutes for the rest of the year. No execptions. I watched people get fired because they got in a car wreck, grandma died, it doesn't matter. I never was able to take a sick or vacation day, the entire 2 years. They will not approve any time off. DON'T GO WORK AT DISH. DO ANYTHING ELSE!!!!

Pros

A place to grab a quick paycheck

Full of lies from interview to training to graduation to sales floor. You start out in this interview process with coaches who just simply run the interview and tell you EVERYTHING that you want to hear. They tell you that their top reps are making $80k-$90k per year. This may have been true in the past and they may have had 1 or 2 reps do that out of 600. Then they give you this line of bull that "they have been given permission to hire a few hundred reps and they are going to fill the center" which has a hundred empty desks which cannot be filled because people quit so fast or are fired so fast that they can never hire enough to fill the empty desks. Then you are told in training how easy this job is, you are only selling TV, they call you, follow the script and you'll make thousands a week. They lie about the hiring process week after week after week. They give you 2 weeks of classroom training that does NOT prepare you for the idiots that call in wanting service, but have no money, no credit or debit card. You are NOT TOLD that there is a close ratio goal of 30% when you get on the sales floor. It's 28% and you are doing well....hang on, yes I said 28%! Close ration goal of 28%....why is this? If you get a call and the customer lives on a 3rd floor or above apartment, you cannot sell them, you have to send them to a third party installer...but YOU GET NAILED on your close ratio. You CANNOT close them as a rule, but it goes against your close ratio. What dumb ass came up with that...Oh his name is Kerin or something not normal close to that. If you get a call from a person that is ALREADY a customer and they just want to ask a question, IT GOES AGAINST YOUR CLOSE RATIO! If you get a call and the call DROPS, IT GOES AGAINST YOUR CLOSE RATIO! You take 15 to 30 minutes dealing with some idiot people only to find out that they have No Credit or Debit card so you cannot close them....yep goes against your close ratio, answer from Management is to beg them to ask someone to sign up for them, customer has no money, beg them to borrow from someone. I had my coach tell this guy to knock on his neighbors door to ask for $42, neighbor slammed the door on him of course. They have a sales bonus that is stupid as hell as well which was great but because too many reps were making money then raised the goal and now hardly anyone makes it.....how do you get this? Sell customers packages that they DONT need or want. BUT you do one wrong thing and they penalize you financially.....they record the calls and if you make a mistake they give you Auto Fails and Non Negoiables.....they take 3 sales away if you make a mistake on 1 sale. This is a ridiculous place to work and the coaches walk around trying to keep people positive in a extremely negative environment. The coaches lie to everyone telling them the same story....they make money when you make money so if you are getting all crap calls and not making sales, they actually tell you that it YOU and NOT THE CALLS. You can have tons of calls that you can do nothing about and no way to close, but they say your not following the script, your tone is negative....how about the idiot marketing people are trying to get every deadbeat they can with $19.99 package that NO ONE wants or can use

Pros

If you work in IT, you get to work with some really great technology. There are some really powerful machines there. From an experience standpoint, Dish is pretty good.

Cons

The management values its employees like slaves. The job is great for someone who is single, but for someone who has a family or personal life that is important to you, you will either need to give it up to be as dedicated as Dish wants, or just not join the Dish team. They pay far less than most of their competitors. The company insurance plans are terrible in comparison with those of my peers at other companies. The company uses scripts to check your time in the building but they don't count time outside of core hours, so for IT people, you do a lot of unpaid work. On top of that, you are required to work 42.5 hours per week at a minimum. Also, they don't pay for working at home. You must have 42.5 hours in the building per week or you get flagged and fired at the next layoff. In regards to time off, if you use your sick time on a Monday or a Friday, you get flagged in the system because it's possible you're misusing your sick time for a three day weekend. If you use sick time near a holiday, you also get flagged. If you use your sick time near your vacation time, you also get flagged. They have yearly mass-firings of exactly 10% to boost their end of the year profits (they did more than 10% a few years ago but the percentage was too high for it to be classified as a firing and they had to back-pay unemployment). If you're flagged enough times in their system, you're the one to go. The worst part about this is they tell the employees in the all team meeting that it was a firing, not a layoff. You're required to work ridiculous hours often without additional time off. If you work a Saturday, it doesn't contribute to your 42.5. The politics make progress very difficult to make when it comes to certain things (IE: upgrading operating systems, server hardware, employee hardware, etc). My guess is the people up top are having their pockets lined by their vendors. In short, the company is extremely tyrannical and ruthless with its employees. If you're not 110% on board with their vision and way of doing things, you're done.
