Pros

Decent offices and close to Metro. Key needed for bathrooms (good security) and parking nearby or under the building. They planned a move to a new location so this may no longer be accurate since I left early in the year.

Cons

This group (senior leadership) presents themselves as an empowering force for professionals to contribute, collaborate and bring innovation. According to them, they only hire the "110% DRTer". That translates to "we will only listen if it is exactly what we are already doing". They speak poorly of each other (senior leaders and HR) behind their backs and this all happened on my first day. They created a position, courted me for weeks, asked me not to accept another offer until another principal could return, made the offer and two weeks later decided they were not ready for a position at this level so they are eliminating it. In my interview (4 separate leaders) they all gave solid justification for why now was the time for this new role (HUGE sales pitch carefully coordinated). In the two weeks I was there, top leadership (who constantly whisper about the "sorority sister" relationship between two of the principals shares that she doesn't want to work there anymore and it became painfully obvious that my job was to be the agreeable sounding board. So the picture painted for me in my interview was just one big lie. Miserable doesn't even come close. When I was unwilling to sit for another hour and listen (since I had been hired to do a job) and politely excused myself, the passive aggressive retaliation began. This individual became instantly angry when in a meeting I made a few suggestions and they were applauded (doing what I was hired to do). I was later told that she had been making the same suggestions for months while holding down my department and her own and no one ever acknowledged her ideas. This made the nit-picking all the more aggressive. No amount of support and acknowledgement placated this bitter "professional". So when I was summarily dismissed after two weeks I was not in the least surprised when I was told they were "eliminating" the position after "careful consideration". Of course this is after the months of "careful consideration" given as to why this position was critical to their growth as a "player" in the new category of business they were now a part of. They did me a huge favor and I am relieved that only two weeks of my life was affected. This place is a cesspool of gossip, back-biting and negativity, cloaked in cheesy grins and "girls run the world" banners (figurative). I have to say that the other employees I came in contact with were pleasant, helpful and competent. Hopefully, they won't get on the bad side of the wrong individuals. Another interesting factoid: The position they eliminated has been filled with someone who views my LinkedIn profile regularly. Someone should tell them that LinkedIn notifies and identifies who's viewing you.

Pros

Plenty of PTO and ability to front-load hours on certain projects. Women owned and run.

Cons

Low pay- my friends at other firms doing the exact same job are making nearly twice as much starting out. We have the exact same experience and were all hired in the same 6 months. Salary was also non-negotiable and I was told if I wanted to negotiate they’d give the job to someone else. Management is one giant clique that only cares about themselves. My manager often took credit for my work and the work of others on my team to advance themself. I was also frequently asked to work 80 hours a week and only allowed to bill 40 hours per week. I was asked to work late at night or on vacation then reprimand for it and told I “wasn’t on that level yet”. Which just implies to me, the more I advanced with the company, the less respect for work life balance they provide. The annual review process is set up to prevent promotions and keep them from having to give raises. The two years I worked there, I wasn’t even provided a cost of living adjustment, even though individual living expenses in DC averaged over half my monthly salary (with multiple roommates!). You’re also not eligible for any raises or promotions until your second review cycle if you’re hired after May. So if you’re coming right out of college, you’ll be there for almost two years before you can get a raise or promotion, since the review cycle is February-April. No financial assistance was provided during the 5 week government shut down and in order to get paid you were expected to use your PTO, if you had none you had to take leave without pay.

Pros

401k, PTO, health benefits, commuter allowance and there are SOME talented and good people that work here.

Cons

Negative environment - the environment is very negative, be prepared for passive aggressive comments every other day. A lot of miscommunication and a gossip culture. CEO creates problems then runs and does not social with her employees when she is in town, yet they expect you to attend monthly after hour events and if you cannot attend be prepared for management to notice, possibly even put it in your performance review and I quote "they are watching you!" Believe the negative reviews! - There is favoritism and there is a clique, company is managed by a bunch of sorority girls. Low salary. One week maternity leave - what a joke for being considered a "Top Women-Run Company."
